In 1970, a talented young mechanic named Fred Perry sold his half of a small business partnership, loaded his wife and daughter and a pile of camping gear into a Jeep CJ5, and headed west to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Fred thought he might like to live and work in the west, but soon found that the Colorado Rockies were for playing, not working.

A month after leaving South Carolina, Fred was back, vowing to visit the Rockies every year for Jeeping in the mountains. He bought a Texaco station in downtown Clemson, where he soon made a name for himself working on the many Jeeps in the area, and Clemson 4 Wheel Center was born.  Fred's vow to Jeep the Rockies at least once every year is now 49 years old and has not been broken!

In 1978 Fred moved his business to its present location about 2 miles west of Clemson and began stocking accessories from the big name manufacturers of the day, including Hickey, Hooker and KC Hilites, to name a few. The business grew quickly and in 1984 a warehouse was added. In 1990 a separate 3 bay shop building was built, bringing total shop bays up to 7. In 1996 a new 3600 square foot showroom was built.

Today Clemson 4 Wheel Center stocks, sells & installs the products of most large manufacturers in the industry, including Warn, Bestop, Tuffy , Rough Country, just to name a few. Also, our employees are avid off-roaders who use the products they sell, so customer service is top-notch. Often, answers to customer questions are based on personal experience, not something we read from a catalog.
